1943年，俄裔美国艺术家梅雅·黛伦 (Maya Deren)，在她当时的伴侣亚历山大·罕密德 (Alexander Hammid) 的协助下，完成了一部14分钟的电影短片《午后的迷惘》(Meshes of the Afternoon)。由此，开创了美国先锋电影实践的先河。

作为该片的编剧、导演、演员和剪辑，梅雅成功地将从容自如的肢体动作、与倾斜的机位、反重力 般的运镜做有机结合，后期配以突破性的非线性叙事剪辑，创造出一段扭曲变形，却又无比梦幻的 迷离时空。更重要的是，影片在梦境般非理性叙事的逻辑之下，优雅地展现了一系列现实到令人不 安的日常场景。它们像是一种自我觉醒的预言，生长在内心的情感投射与外部的清醒世界之间模糊 的边界。

这种形式、概念与作者自我意识的交融，不仅启发了未来几代实验电影人。并且，作为女性创作者 的先驱，梅雅在影片中所呈现的这份直视内心欲望的勇气，以及探寻真我的决心，使我深受感动。

本次展览以“寻梦秘境”为题，借《午后的迷惘》中三个象征符号为索引——“花”、“钥匙”和 “镜子”，邀观者入梦。运用先进的数字科技和交互装置，创造出更具沉浸感和艺术性的体验，让 每一位观者得以探索出个体化的梦境觉知。

值得一提的是，本次展览获得了纽约当代艺术博物馆 (MoMA) 独家授权的珍贵资料，回顾总结了梅 雅·黛伦为电影艺术所做的重要贡献。正如八十年前，梅雅通过《午后的迷惘》启发众多后人自我意 识的觉醒，相信此次展览也将引导观者探寻梦境与现实之间的秘密纽带。

In 1943, Russian-American artist Maya Deren, with the assistance of her partner Alexander Hammid, completed a 14-minute film titled "Meshes of the Afternoon." This groundbreaking work marked the beginning of avant-garde film practice in the United States.

​

As the writer, director, actress, and editor of the film, Maya skilfully blended graceful body movements, tilted camera angles, and gravity-defying cinematography. Combined with innovative non-linear narrative editing, she created a distorted yet mesmerising dreamscape. More importantly, beneath the dreamlike and irrational storytelling, the film elegantly presents a series of unsettling everyday scenes. They act as prophecies of self-awakening, blurring the boundaries between the projections of inner emotions and the wakeful external world.

The fusion of form, concept, and the artist's self-awareness not only inspired several generations of experimental filmmakers but also deeply moved me as a curator. As a pioneer among female creators, Maya's courage to confront inner desires and her determination to explore the true self have been developed into a critical emotional experience.

​

This exhibition, titled “Into Meshes of Dream," takes inspiration from three symbolic motifs in Meshes of the Afternoon – "Flower," "Key," and "Mirror" – to guide viewers into the realm of dreams. By employing advanced digital technology and interactive installations, we aim to create immersive and artistic experiences, allowing each viewer to explore their individual dream consciousness.It is worth mentioning that this exhibition has obtained exclusive authorisation from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, showcasing precious materials that reflect Maya Deren's significant contributions to the art of cinema. Just as Maya awakened the self-awareness of countless successors through "Meshes of the Afternoon" 80 years ago, we believe this exhibition will also guide viewers in unraveling the secret connection between dreams and reality
